WHERE TO STAY

There’s no question. You need to stay at the Fargo Mansion Inn.

We’ve done an entire blog post about this amazing bed and breakfast, but just to sum it up for you…

The Fargo Mansion is a beautiful Queen Anne style house with four guest rooms on the second floor.

On the first floor you’ll find a sitting area, formal dining room, and the library (AKA the cocktail station). There are also some gorgeous antiques to peruse like Steiff bears and carnival glass. The most incredible part is that everything is spotless! Not a speck of dust on anything.

The four guest rooms on the second floor all have HD TVs, luxurious beds, and bathrooms. You can’t go wrong with any of the four that you choose.

We had the EJ Fargo room, which is considered the honeymoon suite of the mansion. It’s the biggest of the four rooms.

When you walk in, the centerpiece of the room is a small sitting area surrounding a fireplace that keeps the room nice and cozy. Just beside the sitting area is a desk where you can get some work done, because the mansion is equipped with high-speed Wifi.

The queen size bed has the best linens, and you just melt into it. The best feeling!

The EJ Fargo room also has porch, with a gorgeous view of the Lake Mills town street. Since we came in winter, it was pretty chilly, but still a great place to watch the sunset.

Everything is so luxurious, clean, and perfect decorated. But where’s the bathroom? You’ll find it hidden behind a bookcase. Pretty cool, right? Plus, the marble finishes make you feel like royalty.

WHAT TO DO

Along the main drag in Lake Mills you’ll find a beautiful park, little restaurants, antique shops, and local merchants. It’s a great place just to walk around and sightsee.

Since we were there in winter, it was quite cold and snowy, but we still had a great time walking around and looking at the historical downtown.

Make sure to wander into the RE/MAX office and say hey to Barry. Just let him know that Joanie and Jenni sent you!

CORNER MERCANTILE

Tom and Barry own an adorable shop called the Corner Mercantile. You’ll find everything from cute purses and travel bags to candles and home decor.

We had a great time walking around and shopping. We picked up some bags, candles, kitty decor, a local book, and some Lake Mill merch!

EPHRAIM POTTERY

If you want to get some locally crafted pottery, Ephraim Pottery is the perfect spot!

They have practical pieces like plates and bowls along with decorative pieces like vases. Everything in the store is stunning and of the highest quality.

They even offer some classes and demonstrations so you can learn to make your own!

WHERE TO EAT

There are several yummy places to eat. We had lunch at Doyle’s Dogs, which is conveniently located right next to the Corner Mercantile.

Jenni isn’t a hot dog person, but she loved the Polish dog!

Fargo Mansion, Tom, recommends The Grist, which is just down Main Street from Doyle’s Dogs.
